The Music ACT Music Awards (MAMAs)

The MAMAs are back to celebrate the best of the Capital’s music from 2024!

The AIATSIS Indigenous Art Market is back in Canberra and online, to support the ethical purchase of authentic Australian Indigenous art.

As the largest Indigenous art market in the Canberra region, you’ll see a diverse range of paintings, textiles, sculptures and much more. Importantly, 100 per cent of sales from the art market goes back to Indigenous art centres, artists and their communities.

City Centre Christmas Party

This is a Christmas party for Canberra, by Canberra!

Carols in Town Park

Since the early 2000’s the Tuggeranong Salvation Army has organised a community Christmas event in Tuggeranong, and this year is no different!

Head along to celebrate Christmas and the community with some low-key children’s activities, a sausage sizzle and carols. The carols will be led by the Salvation Army Brass Band accompanied by local vocalist Amber Nicolls, so make sure your singing voice is ready!

Jack Maggs

Ethel Carrick

Apart of a National Gallery initiative celebrating the work of all women artists to enhance understanding of their contribution to Australia’s cultural life, you can head along to the NGA to see the work of Ethel Carrick (1872–1952).

A pioneering artist who forged new ground in the early twentieth century with her bold and vibrant post-impressionist works, this will be the first retrospective of Carrick’s work for nearly half a century and an opportunity to assess her work in a new light.

Pattern Recognition

Pattern Recognitioncelebrates female and non-binary artists from the ACT region who use abstraction and design principles to explore colour perception and spatial relationships, highlighting the ways artists approach colour, geometry, and form.

20 Years of Australian Geographic Nature Photographer of the Year

For 20 years, the Australian Geographic Nature Photographer of the Year competition has provided a platform for emerging and established photographers to capture the most remarkable flora, fauna, and landscapes of Australia, New Zealand, Antarctica and New Guinea.

This year, National Archives of Australia is showcasing 20 Years of the Australian Geographic Nature Photographer of the Year with winning entries from each year of the competition. Kulata Tjuta: Tirkilpa

Kulata Tjuta is an ongoing cultural maintenance project that shares the skills of carving and making the punu kulata (wooden spear) across generations.

Starting as a project involving a small group of men in Amata, it grew to include over 100 Aṉangu men across the Aṉangu Pitjantjatjara Yankunytjatjara (APY) Lands. As the largest and most significant installation of the culturally important and visually spectacular Kulata Tjuta (Many Spears) Project, you’ll see large-scale, multi-disciplinary installations which incorporate film, sound, live performance and other artistic collaborations.

The Bibliographical Society of Australia and New Zealand (BSANZ) will be holding their annual two-day conference at the National Library in 2024. The theme for this year is Bibliomania: Stories from Inside and Outside the Book.

Focusing on the topic of the stories behind the book, everything from the book as object to book production discussed.
